Okay, apologies up front for the hyperbolic/click batey thread title. I will do my best to make this worth reading. The story is, I started playing music when I was a teenager, went to college to study audio engineering, and never had a job that wasn't either mixing or performing music until I was over 30. I'm not saying I was particularly good, but I got by. Then in 2015, I just lost the heart to do it anymore, found a new career path, and stopped even listening to music for enjoyment. No kidding, I was so burnt out that I switched to podcasts when I wanted to listen to something.
What does any of this have to do with Effects? Well, the pandemic happened, and I decided I was ready to start pulling some gear out of retirement and I felt like I could enjoy music in the way that I used to in the beginning. It's not a job anymore. The long hiatus was no friend to my chops, but I feel like it gave me some interesting perspective on things that I wanted to share here. I also figure I might not be the only one in this position. Below is a picture of all of the pedals I pooled together when I started to figure out where all of my gear ended up, along with a few extras borrowed from friends (and a few more off camera). Obviously some of these were bought with guitar in mind. The only thing purchased recently is the DC7.
I think there are a few of the old forgotten TalkBass favorites in there. I will leave it at that for now, because I find posts this long tedious to read, but hopefully I can share some interesting stuff over time, and I'm hoping some of you will help me remember how a few of these work.
