IMO they do sound like Fenders - vintage Fenders. The saying is - vintage Fender P at Ibanez prices...

I want a Blazer, settle for a Cimar or Roadstar II?

So, I can't really afford it right now, but hey - when does that stop us? I just pulled the trigger off this 1981 beauty from Reverb. A touch higher than I wanted to pay but he knocked $50 off the original asking price, so I got it for $460 out the door. I love the finish. The last Blazer I had was natural and the hardware was a bit rough. This one is in great shape, I couldn't care less about the buckle rash on the back. All in all I'm going to be super happy, even comes with the original case! Thanks to all who convinced me to wait for the real deal. Now I need to get some stuff posted in the classifieds...

I found a brown cimar 2072 jazz with the blazer headstock on marketplace for FREE a couple of weeks ago. A lady was moving on her late father’s music gear. That alone makes this instrument deeply special to begin with. And he played it a lot you can tell. It’s in a real state with only the neck pickup working and quite beaten up. The strings are SUPER dead, old round wounds. Guess what, it is absolutely incredible. It is such an unmistakable rich chocolate funky thick OLD tone. I cannot put it down. It’s a diamond in the rough. It’s like been handed it by god, not to be too dramatic. DAMN it is beautiful. I’ll never change anything about it I don’t think. The pickups are stunning.
Jump back a year or so. I saw another Cimar 2072 jazz, again on marketplace, this one seems to have been a custom order because the colour is a metallic blue but you can see the brown underneath it in places where the blue has worn off. $250 AUD, snapped it up. This one has a far more fender shaped headstock. It is maybe 2-3 years older than the brown one, I’d say 81/82. …It’s got nothing on the other one. I’ve changed the pickups and am experimenting with different strings etc.. it’s a solid build and feels like a well constructed instrument but it doesn’t even speak the same language as the other one. It’s kind of mega bright and hard to tame. It’s a totally playable instrument but you have to find the sweet spots, and they are illusive.
Moral of the story, Cimars can be seriously average all the way to incredible.
Give one a play if you see it.
