Squier Vintage Modified '77 or Classic Vibe 60s jazz bass?

I have the opportunity to trade my MIM Fender P for one of these babies. I normally wouldn't get another jazz bass but my primary jazz has been disassembled and awaiting a resurrection (meaning new body, new pickups, and new gizmos).

I've heard great things about both the VM and CV and I would get both if I could, but limited resources are forcing me to choose one...both look amazing and I bet they sound fantabulous!

This is not a thread debating whether the other is better or whatever. I've played both before and they sound killer. I'm just really torn and I could use your guys' help!

They both look nice. I voted for the white one with rosewood board only because I don't care for white blocks/binding on a maple board... Which one do you like the look/feel of better?

Oh...hard to say. I'm a huge fan of maple and block inlays but I don't want it to be the reason I trade away my P-Bass. The ones I've played were at my music store so I'm safely assuming feel and look and sound will vary per instrument even if it's the same model, same company, same stuff.

I did like the feel of the CV 60s better...the rosewood is my only eugh...such a PITA to take care of and I love the glossy feel of a lacquered maple neck. It's just the pity the '77 VM doesn't have the 70s pickup spacing otherwise I would have grabbed that. I absolutely LOVE the sound of a jazz bass with the 70s spacing. LOVE IT

Personally, I'd keep the MIM P, but since that's not what you asked, I'd do what Gnal said.

What trouble? I have one that is over fifty years old that I've never done any maintenance to, and it is beautiful.

Do whatever makes you the happiest brotha, i'd say CV because the fit and finish on those things are usually great and I like the color scheme better. Does the VM have 70s p/u spacing?

Both are nice basses.

You can't really go wrong with either bass. Personally, that white & tort is killer.
Either way, you end up with a good bass that's easily on par with the MIM P.

No. They're standard spacing.

The Classic Vibe Jazz basses are nice looking, nice sounding instruments..but the frets wear down in no time. Bad trade.

I would never trade a P for a J but I voted for the '77 because it's black and has a maple fretboard. My favorite.

Can't go wrong with either, but I'd take the CV in this case. Not sure what the concern with rosewood is though, it doesn't need any sort of special care. I've had rosewood fingerboards on almost all of my basses, including one on my former EBMM SR5 that looked and felt just like brand new 20+ yrs later without any sort of special care.

I'd get both, swap necks. Keep the white with maple, sell the black with rosewood.
