I want to know: how do you get ACIDFORTHECHILD's $10k bass budget.
As someone who owns all the above, I don’t think you can make a bad choice, but I’m also curious why you’re now considering a Strat? Are you thinking bass might not be the path you want to take? That’s not to say you can’t do both, but I’m a little shocked considering this thread and what you’ve posted thus far.

I don't think I realized how much Flea used to record with a WAL. Very expensive instruments. You could start with these pickups though -

Here's a photo of the trans blue Wal Mk II in the store before Flea bought it to use on BSSM.
A week or so later he bought the black MusicMan Stingray 5 from us as well which was also used on the album.

Imagine being able to just walk into a store and buy a Wal. The 90s were awesome... speaking from experience.
You cannot buy a modulus for 1k. But, seems like you are going with a stingray which is fine. Outside of your question, any bass will do so I wouldn't get hung up on the gear.
Flea plays MusicMan style basses including a stingray, Modulus Funk Unlimited and his Fender signature active bass. But he has also played other basses including:
A 61 J bass
A Spector NS2
An Alembic Epic
A Wal
Those are very different basses and he always sounds like Flea.
So if you haven’t already, practice his technique and his lines before dropping thousands to “get that sound.”
If you are already there I would say the Stingray is a safe choice but most basses with that PU configuration and active eq should get you in the vernacular.

Agree. And if I had a Time Machine I would go backwards in time and buy ALL the Wals!
It was certainly a fun time. We were the first Wal dealer in the country, and sold quite a few. We actually sold 7 in one day.
