I want to make a fretless!

Ok...So here is the deal I've been playing bass for almost a year and I have been getting into a clean jazzy type of playing so I decide I want a fretless..But I don't want to buy one... I want to make one from my crappy little Jay Turser 401People say maple necks dont work with making a frettless...Any help is appreciated

I would suggest that you don't just go all Jaco on it and rip the frets out with pliers. Maple doesn't work well as a fretless (it's a bit too soft, and will damage easily if you play it everyday) unless it has been epoxied. Good looking bass though. It it were me (just my opinion) I would just buy a fretless Fender neck and have it shimmed and fit into the Turser's neck pocket.
