I want to start a band...

Okay ive been wanting to start a band, im 16 and been playing guitar for a year or two, playing bass for about 6 months now, and been looking into getting some drums.
I just been wanting to play in a band but i dont know anyone who plays drums or guitar i mean i do but there not the people i would want to associate with. Ive been thinking of just getting all the equipment together and teach people how to play so i could jam with some people. Im wondering if this is all that weird? to teach and play with people on my equipment i mean who wouldnt want to play a instrument especially start some type of band?

I dont really know what type of band i would want but I just want to play joy division, black keys, white stripes, nirvana, and the pixies etc. I would love some type of punk or something along the lines of the bands i named but again is it all that weird to teach people just so i could start a band?

Not unheard of. When I was a teenager, my bro played guitar and I played bass. We couldn't find a drummer so we talked a buddy into buying a cheap set of drums from the local music store. We had a second set in our basement, so it worked out well. He was extremely enthusiastic and practiced every day, so it worked out well. Can't say everyone would put the time in, but he sure did.

Cool, but what songs can you actually play from start to finish - I recommend starting with about 12 songs or 45 minutes worth of music that YOU CAN PLAY and front (lead sing) if not instrumentals - or maybe consider joining someone else’s band to start with. Oh and jam with anyone and everyone you can - even the bad boys and girls that you don't want to associate with - just be sure to keep it all about music only!!!

When I was your age, I told my bass teacher that I wanted to get into a band, and he hooked me up with one of his drum students. Same high school but different grades so I didn't know him.

Ask your teacher. And if you don't have one, get one. I'm 25 and already suffering from a little tendinitis from two years of playing with T-rex arms and other terrible habits.

Not so strange wanting to teach others to play with the end goal of eventually forming a band. I did that back in the day. Just prepare yourself for a very long and frustrating experience that will most likely not work out. Probably better to become "good enough" at whatever instrument you choose and then start looking around for other musicians that fit the style of sound that you will inevitably develope. Under-age shows are a good place to meet other up-and-coming musicians.
