I went back to rounds after a stint with flats

I had to change back to rounds for some of my tonal needs for the next line of gigs.

I noticed my action has to be much higher to support my needs vs when I was using flats. Flats felt so good. What a bummer.

for reference, I was using LaBella Low Tensions and my go-to rounds are D'addario Medium Gauge nickel wounds.

Over the past little while I've been on an acquisition spree, I might as well blame TalkBass. LOL I have a custom made P-Slab (Koa) that I modded to all hell (J/P/J p/ups + preamp etc.) wrapped w/half-wounds, it was my main bass, period. I had bought a Fretless VM Jazz years ago but kept that on the side along with my defretted AGB. Over time I bought a nice Fender FSR jazz (Ash) and thought I was all set.

Well, after I got the bug and started to look for a P-Bass that I could use for a pseudo hard-rock/punk bass and found an inexpensive VM P Bass (Amber) wrapped with OLD Chromes, I fell in love and now refuse to remove the Chromes. I kept an eye out for another P but nothing came up for a decent price until about a month ago... now I have my perfect hard-rock/punk P bass (olympic white, black pickguard) and wrapped her with Rotos! Now, I have 2 inexpensive Ps that are more than 'workable,' they're a joy to play and nice that I got both for under $300 each!

Moral of story... you need 2

that's all, end of rant.

I don't know the exact figures, but I'd guess that the medium Daddario XLs have more tension than Labella Low Tension Flats. The Labella Deep Talking Flats on the other hand would be more comparable, particularly the 760FL set.

I can get a pretty low action with Labella Deep Talking Flats. Tonal needs aside that is…if you need a roundwound sound flats typically don't do that.
