I will never see Rush live...

I saw them on every tour from Hold Your Fire through Vapor Trails (wanted to see the Power Windows tour, but parents didn't think I was old enough to be going to concerts yet if I recall right). After the Vapor Trails show, I was kind of over the concert experience in general (not because of that show - great performance). I got dragged to a couple of Madonna concerts in '06 and '09, haven't gone to a concert since, and doubt I will again. I hate large crowds, you're usually far away, and the sound in large venues, especially indoors, is usually pretty horrid. I think my favorite experiences were seeing the RTB and VT shows with outdoor lawn seating - didn't need earplugs and the sound was better there.

Saw them for Grace under pressure, R30 and clockwork angels. Been a rush fan since hearing 2112 in '77. Best shows ever. You will never get to see one of the greatest stage acts ever with some of the greatest players ever. I feel lucky to have seen them 3 times. I wish it was 300...but they will probably do an out of retirement show in a couple years. They have a tendency to get restless. Limited shows....tickets will go very quickly...probably pre order only. Join their fan site and get ready....you won't want to miss em if they come out one more time ....

About a month or two ago I started listening to a bunch of Rush's work, including Signals, 2112 and their debut album. Weeks later, I heard of their retirement. I was happy to hear they were finishing up on a good note.

But I just watched a real cool video of Geddy Lee laying down a solid line while the crowd is going nuts.

Then I realized.

I will never see Rush live...

You can get yourself a wide screen tv, a surround sound audio system and buy their live concert dvds and have at it.

If I were Geddy I'd drop the keys down a step. He's been struggling with the high notes for years.

I love Rush, but I would have to say MY experience is that they weren't that fun to see live. They sounded almost exactly like the album, which is impressive, but I don't think the experience differed enough from listening to the album. So I don't feel like I would have missed much if I hadn't seen them. My favorite concerts have been where the album was like a "preview" of the songs, and were fleshed out and expanded, etc. in concert. Either that, or energy that just can't come across on an album.

The Clockwork angels tour was amazing. One of my favorites! I latched onto Rush back in the early 80's. Their Albums and corresponding concerts were the soundtrack of many of our lives. (We grew older with them.) As my father passed away from cancer a little more then a year ago, "The Garden" became a healing song for me. Connecting at a spiritual and emotional level to music is a gift. This is why Rush is so special to me and why I would never miss one of their concerts.

Never saw them live either. When I first discovered them I was 16 and not enough into them to buy tickets over Black Sabbath etc. and then they somewhat drifted into my personal listening obscurity, just last year I re-discovered them and now that I'd have the money to get tickets for Black Sabbath and Rush, but well..
