Ibanez 8 string

played one for a bit at Haight Ashbury Music a few years ago, very nice instrument and actually pretty easy to get around, and as mentioned above, Ibanez from that era were well made. If I had the money laying around I'd snag it if it's in good shape, though I don't know if that's considered a good price or not.

That's an ST-980, I owned one of those in the 1980s. Bolt-on neck, 32" (medium) scale, some kind of Varitone switch, switch-selectable active gain preamp and passive tone knob, and a big block of brass embedded in the body under the bridge like an Alembic. And yes, heavy as a brick craphouse.

Price is going rate, for ST980, condition appears better than some seen listed for sale. Have the MC980 since new, still play it every week or so. The MC980 has overall better features, over the ST980, though some would argue. Depends on how much work you expect to use the 8 stringer for, ie $700 odd dollars would purchase a more usual 4 or 5 string working bass. Doubt many could play an 8 all night, i never could, it did always attract punters to my side of the stage, has to be worth the effort for that alone :-). HTH

** Do not forget, 32" scale and the plus minus this brings.
