  1. hi guys, been having some trouble finding long scale strings for my atk 400, only on the E string does the wrap-around, or whatever its called sits just below the nut and i'm concerned this is gonna wear away at the fretboard. i'm using d'addario prosteels at the moment. ernie balls don't fit nor do rotosound. i'm due some fresh soon and wanna know if theres any manufacturers who make extra long scale! :help:
    thanks all

I had the same problem when I played an ATK. Check out Circle K, they make some pretty long strings.

You might just need to buy the Extra Long Scale. They are generally intended for 35" scale basses, but some bridges and thru-body stringing will eat up some of that precious string length.

For your current set, just use a blade and scrape off the silk (I presume that's what you're referring to as the "wrap around"?). It's only there to protect your hardware.

  5. Isn't the ATK a 34" scale just like Fender?

prosteels dont have silk, i dont think any daddarios do. hes probably referring to the wrap wire, as they tend to taper off pretty quick

You can cut the silks off the ball end...

If you "top load" the strings in the bridge instead of running them through the body virtually every "long scale" string will fit with no problem.

Just hook the ball of the string into the "keyhole" in the bridge plate instead of feeding the string through the body from the other side.

I've owned 7 ATKs and preferred "top loading" the strings.

  11. nah i didnt mean the silk, d'addario's dont have em. i'd wanna keep thru-body stringing them as the extra sustain you get is top notch. i shall try the super long scales out, i never knew they existed! thanks for all the advice though guys!

Have you actually noticed a difference?

  13. +1 I've got DR DDT's on my ATK 305 that are strung through the body. I didn't have any issues at all.
