Ibanez Gio?

A friend of my son brought down an active Ibanez Gio for me to look at for him. No strings, no battery or control cover. He said he got no output with a fresh battery. His dad bought it for him at a pawnshop a couple years ago. Is it worth putting any money into if the preamp is shot? I'm assuming that the pickups are passive. Could the pre be bypassed and the bass wired a as a V-V-T set-up?
