Ibanez GSR200 - buzz on E string

Had my GSR200 for a week, I am 100% newbie to bass (isolation gift to myself!). My open E and F notes really buzz and it is even difficult to tune this string. I have replaced the strings, but the problem is still there. I am reluctant to mess around with hex/Allen keys as this would effect al the other strings and they are OK. Further down the E is less of a problem, the string is definitely angled correctly.

Any other ideas on how to address this issue?

Well your gonna have to brake out the Allan keys because your bass needs a setup. There are many good tutorials on YouTube to help you.
Edit: not meaning to be snarky. A setup is the only solution.

It sounds like your neck doesn't have enough relief. This will impact your E and A strings the most because they will oscillate with the widest arch. You could try raising the action on those two strings to see if it helps, but adding a little neck relief (loosen the truss rod nut slightly) will likely be your best fix. As mentioned above, there's no shortage of youtube videos that will help guide you through this very simple process.

OK, the truss is super tight in both directions. Concerned by applying too much force this might cause damage.

Moved the truss anti clock wise and it makes no difference. I did measure as per the you tube guides and I have 4 mm so within the range. I might change the E string and test again. Reluctant to break things!

No change, could the head nut be causing the buzz? No issues with any other strings. Might have to wait until the world returns to normal.

Wait....is it just one string, the E string and when you fret the F? The rest of the strings okay? If so, it's NOT your truss rod. Could be two things, the nut is cut incorrectly for that string or the string height should be adjusted by raising the saddle for the E string. Is the E string significantly lower than the rest of the strings? How is the string seated on the nut? Is there too much of a gap or is it too tight?

Sound like the nut is cut too low. Test it by putting a little piece of paper in the nut slot between the nut and the string and see if that improves the buzz.
If it does get a new but or fill the nut slot, baking soda and super glue work.

Sounds like a nice low tech idea. Let me start with a bit of paper. That might explain why it is just the E string and the measurements look correct. Thank you.

I do think it needs a pro fix. The hole in the nutt feels way deeper than the others and at open E notes that could be the cause of the buzz.

At least you know why there is buzz. No need to mess with the trussrod.

Swapped my bass for a new one. Music Store pro - really helpful. Anyway, sounds perfect now.
