Ibanez Musician Bass Club

So I have read this entire thread (a few months back), but I can’t remember if this topic was covered at any length-

Do you all prefer active or passive on your Musicians?
So far for me, active mode is my favorite on this particular bass, and I primarily play passive Fender Jazz Basses.

I played my Musician with the on-board EQ until about 10 years ago.
I got tired of changing the battery, which has to be done by unscrewing the entire back plate, so I took the battery out and started playing it passive, using only the amp’s EQ to alter the tone.

I find that as good as the instrument sounds with its own EQ, it sounds much better using the amp’s EQ.

Then, about 3 years ago, I bought an Empress Para EQ.

This brings out natural, subtle tones which really doesn’t surprise me considering the woods and pickups which were used in this top-of-the-line instrument’s construction.

The on-board EQ is very good, but I think all Musician players/owners should experimment with a good out-board EQ unit.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mike

I mainly use mine passive too.

Why can't you use both? I primarily play my Roadster these days, but adjust onboard and outboard EQ as needed. Or wanted. Same with the MC-940 when I do play it.

We all have those regrets. I stupidly also traded the following. 70's Hofner 500/1, a74 4001 White with Black binding, a 4003 Montazuma Burst, and another AmberFireglo. A 73 Gibson EB3L, Yamaha BB3000, and of course the Ibanez Musician. Truly, idiotic of me. Not doing these things anymore, cause I only have two basses left.

Hey all. I have a Musician MC-888, the old bean bass. I ended up buffing it out due to the matte finish being uneven from use. Looks great. The only thing is all the gold hardware is in rough shape. Anyone know of a drop in replacement for the bridge? I am considering having the existing one and the tuner buttons replated but it won't be cheap. I think the Gotoh Resolites will fit if I want to replace the tuners but can't find a drop in bridge.

Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no direct replacement for the bridge. The gold on both my Beans are pitted too. In fact, one of them is a replacement, as the original was in pretty rough condition.

Not familiar with those Gotoh, but I use Hipshot Ultralites on all but one of my Musicians.
