Ibanez pickup question!

Hey so I have an Ibanez SR406, and I want to put the pickups up to about "factory" height. But when I try to rise them, the pickup doesn't "follow" the screws. As in the pickup stays at it's height and the screw comes out. I dunno what the problem is, and I'm half tempted to take it to a shop but I can't really afford to go without my bass for a day at the least.

I can post pics later if need be, but I'm hoping someone knows what my problem is and how to fix it. Thanks!

Problem is there isn't enough springy material (foam or sometimes springs around the pickup screws) to put enough pressure on the pickup to lift it.

Unscrew the pickups from the body and add more material to increase pickup height. Put the pickups back in.

Replace the old foam beneath the pickups with new, firm, but springy foam- like hot water heater foam covering. Then, use you fingers to 'help' compress the foam while adjusting, and let the screws hold it in place- this will keep the screw threads from possibly stripping, altho an SR400 should be maple and a lot stronger than basswood or alder.
