This is a killer, Japanese-made Ibanez Roadstar II RB630.
Based on the design, it's either a 1983 or 1984, but since the serial number starts with "84---" I'm guessing that it's a 1984.
Either way, the features are the same:
1983RoadstarII_Manual.pdf (hoshinogakki.co.jp)
1984RoadstarII_Standard.pdf (hoshinogakki.co.jp)
This is a players bass, not a museum piece. There are a fair amount of dings on the body, and a few on the neck (I've tried to clearly show the worst of them in my photos) but none that affect playability.
Hardware has been upgraded; HipShot (licensed) UltraLite tuners and a Gotoh 404 bridge, both in black.
The UltraLites knocked over 7 ounces off the weight of the bass, which improved the balance considerably. Now, the bass weighs in at a svelte 8lbs 7.76oz.
The Gotoh bridge is similar to what Ibanez used on some of the higher-end models of that era, and allows for quick string changes.
I also replaced the pickguard screws with black, flat-head screws because I prefer the visual and the flush surface.
The Ibanez "Chevron" strap buttons were gone when I got it - strap buttons are Schaller-style straplocks.
Pickup is the original; an Ibanez version of the DiMarzio Model P - it rocks!
Tone was a little dark, so I replaced the original 250k audio-taper pots with linear-taper 500k. That change let the clarity and snap of the bass come through, but there's plenty of travel on the tone pot to get warm vintage tones, if that's what you're after.
Also included is the original, form-fitting Ibanez "rifle" case.
I'm not in a hurry to sell this bass - but it was a nostalgic purchase, and the neck profile isn't quite my thing (I prefer wider and flatter, and this is a bit narrower and deeper than I like).
Based on Reverb sales, my $550 asking price is more than fair, so I'm pretty firm on it.
Trades considered, but mainly looking for a sale; PayPal FF or Zelle welcomed.
Shipping negotiable based on final purchase price.
Or come check out/pick up the bass if you're in the Chicago area...
