Ibanez SDGR 1000 Qustion

I have had my sdgr for god I almost hate to say for probably around 15 years or so. I recently brought it in to get it fixed. I have been having problems with the guts (electronics) for the last few years. Problems include bad buzz, input not reliable.... and so on. I loved the sound when it worked. I am faced with having to replace the preamp or go passive with it. Seeing as how I am unemployed, passive is the optimal choice for now. The problem is that the technician can not figure out the wiring because there seem to be no wiring diagrams available for my model. Does anyone know where I could find this information. I would hate to amputate. PLEASE HELP!!! If there is no hope, any guidance on preamp setups would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Maybe try a different guitar tech???

My choice to use small business may be cost prohibitive. To have this guy look at the bass and do a basic setub... ( neck adjusting, and whatever) has already cost me $130.00. And don't get me wrong, my first instinct was to get a second opinion. So your reply to my thread is greatly appreciated because it enforces my instinct, however, cost is a factor here. Can't do much on my budget and this is my only bass for now. I just want to be able to play again in my simple setup (I am not playing live at the moment). is it worth it to have him remove the guts and let me save them for another tech to sort out at another time? I know this thread is probably a pain in the ass but this bass has made it through alot and means alot to me. Thanks jsh!

My question is, is it worth it to spend te extra money now, or can I preserve the bass by saving as much of the current setup as possible and giving it to a tech at a later date to re-install it at a later time the proper way? Or just go with a new setup at a later time? Opinions welcome.

PM me. I am not far from you, I can help you out. I had a SDGR 1000E back in the day, it came stock with EMG P/J pick up's, and Bass/Treble pre. Does yours have this set up? Either way I could help you out, I have a small repair shop doing repairs for close to 20 years.

The original SR1000 (1988-1989) came stock with DiMarzio-made IBZ-USA pickups and 'Power Curve' preamp. I'm sure those pickups are passive and converting it should me easy. In 1990, the 1000 changed to the EMG pickups, and I'm not sure what preamp, but it's likely the Ibanez EQBII. Unfortunately, the Ibanez wiring diagram database doesn't go back past 1994, and I'm not sure either of those preamps were still being used then.

It is definitely the power curve setup. which helps me date my Bass a little better. I bought it used at a Sam Ash in Edison, NJ back in the day. After Further research, this may be a SR1000 EBK circa 1987.
