Ibanez SR Help, Volume levels....

Has anyone noticed a volume and attack difference between SR models. I have a SR 700 that always seems louder than any other SR Bass I pick up, weather it is in a store model or one I own. I also own a SR 500 and SR 600 walnut, also at one point I did own a 2nd SR 700. None of the volumes remain consistence to each other. Ibanez claims all neck and electronics are the same, I know wood type does play a role, but it should not be that big of a volume change….Has anyone else run into this.

Are they all the same era of SR? The electronics get changed every couple of years with the SR line (I thought.)

I don't think the wood choice has any effect on this at all. Are the pickups are the same height? Are the EQ's exactly the same?

Yes all same ERA, and EQ settings...I have not looked at pickup height, I will look into this. Also I am playing same strings on both.

Haha...Yes, I always change out at the same time.

Pickup Height is the most obvious answer to me. Just grab a small screw driver and raise and lower them until you get the dynamic range you want across the strings. If they dont want to come out any further, pad them with a shaped block of foam.

It could be a few other things relating to bad workmanship (bad pickups, incorrect gauge wiring or connections?) but its very unlikely. Ibanez tends to have decent quality control.

I help out a friend of mine at a music store here once a week. At one point, I had a SR605. I was thinking about grabbing an SR405 he had in the shop as a backup. Whenever I played/compared both, the 405 was approximately 20-25% lower in volume.

I know this is an old thread but I recently took apart my sr500 that I got new to find a very poorly done neck shim consisting of a piece of thick tape and some sawdust witch was causing the two back neck screws to pull out and loosen constantly. after I replaced the tape and sawdust with a full contact shim made of some zebrawood veneer I had I found the bass was much louder and brighter even unplugged.
