It seems ibanez has updated it's sr 300 line.

Most notable differences are new humbucking pickups with coil tap, and a mahogany body instead of basswood. Sounds much better than the previous models imo, but it's priced the same.

I am surprised by the amount of attention that got into the creation of site and videos. Guess they take them more serious now. However I hope they improved the fretwork, as that was quite bad on most 300's I laid my hands on. (not to mention the rattling saddles).

They have almost too many models now, I wish they'd update the SR500 with a better finish, id buy one. Its inexplicable why they haven't fixed that problem on one their best sellers, but are upgrading other lines.

That's true, i saw pictures on the net of said model with the finish sort of peeling off.
Also I don't understand why they come up with the 300 and 370 or the 500 and 600 since they are the same safe for the finish and/or wood (adds up to 5 and 6 string versions)
Would be better if they retired some of these models and went out to re-release something like a musician or roadstar.

Having a different body wood is a very good reason to be a different number IMHO. Some companies like to have one model with different finishes and woods that cause said single model to be have more than one proce point. Ibanez prefers to have a single model only occupy one price point. If the wood makes it more expensive it becomes a new model with a new price.

Ibanez really does have about the best bass available in each respective price class, IMO. Even the SR200's are well built structurally, and well worth upgrading with better electronics. I can't justify buying any new basses, but if I was just starting to play, I'd grab one in a heartbeat. That black SR300 is badass looking bass, very sleek, and they all are really light and well balanced. What gets me is the necks, i have smallish hands, and they fit like they were made for my hands.

I just put in an order at Sweetwater for a SR300E in Candy Red. I am impressed with the upgrades, the light weight (Sweetwater weighed it at 7 lbs 10 ozs as I need a lightweight bass), the red one has black hardware and knobs which looks really nice. The reviews just rave about the quality for the price, and Sweetwater apparently, more or less sets it up, at least the basics. The E definitely has the upgrade of the humbucking pickups and big improvements in the electronics. I have no problem with all the different models of Ibanez, something for everybody. I have owned the SR500, SR200's, even one of the micro basses in the past. All quality basses, no matter the price point. I have such confidence in Ibanez, am willing to buy it online. Cannot really figure out why some descriptions call it a beginner bass. I think it is very giggable.

If anyone is looking to sell the pickups and electronics on their post-2016 Ibanez 300E (that's the set with the open pole pieces on the pickups and the 3-way switch that includes the Power Tap), give me a holler. I can pay or I have loads of pickups and electronics I can trade.
