IBANEZ SR300 OWNERS??

Anyone out there own an Ibanez SR300(with the double bartolinis)? Please let me know your experiences with it. I absolutely adore it despite the weird color. I have the orange one and I find it one of the most versatile and best sounding basses. It's a "slap monster", it doesn't hurt my back because it's featherweight, and the neck is just pure heaven. It usually overshadows my more pricey basses as far as use. Any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

I REALLY want one of these and was going to buy one...until I came across schecter. They are thin light and are slap monsters! Even the fretless version puts out some impressive sound. And the color selection! IMHO Best value bass.

I dont think so. on their website under the sr300 it says:
SR SERIES BASICS
Lightweight, balanced comfort-contoured bodies
Thinner necks than traditional basses for effortless fretwork
Bartolini® MK-1 pickups and EQB-3S 3 band EQ's with mid frequency switch on SR750/SR700/600/530/500 models deliver world-class sound and tone
5pc Jatoba/Bubinga necks on SR750/SR700/600/500 models offer even more durability and stability
5pc Maple/Rosewood necks on SR300/SR400 models offer durability, playability and tone
SR300PWF fretless features Ebonol fingerboard
Ibanez EXF passive pickups (SR300/SR400 series) are contoured for well-balanced string response
Am I reading it wrong?

I have the SR 505 and it is awesome, it sounds good and the neck is so thin and comfortable it just makes you want to play. Ibanez necks are awesome and they dont sound bad at all.. i chose my SR 505 over a Warwick Corvette std

Heres link to current Ibanez website page for SR300. Like mine they do not have bart pups. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

They have EXF-4f and EXL-4r pups. I like them with the style sweeper eq better then the Ibanez soundgears that do have barts and other preamp.

SR300's don't have Barts. They have stock Ibanez pups. Barts start from the SR500 models and up if I'm not mistaken.

The one thing I don't like about the SR300/500 basses is the lack of space to rest your thumb when plucking. Of all the SR's I've tried, I find myself struggling to keep my thumb from sliding down the pup when resting. Sometimes I get a sweet spot and it sticks for ages but most times I'm just finding it uncomfortable.

I was interested in getting an SR500...until I heard about the new SRA series basses. Defs want to check one out once they hit stores here. And with the EMG-HZ pups, I can totally rest my thumb now :D

I love my SR300!

I bought one of these new this summer based on the fact it was red sparkle. Maybe not the best criteria for choosing a bass, but in my defense I am familiar with Ibanez and really wanted an inexpensive replacement for my stolen '86 RB800 and the '93 SR800 I sold in hard times.

Of my current 15 basses my SR300 is in the top 3 both for playability and sound. Not bad for a "cheapie" or "entry level" bass.

I bought my SR300 because I like green, and it came with a rich, bright Sparkle Green finish (I'm with ya here, Ursus).

It also helps that it has a very smooth neck. Don't get me wrong, the thin profile takes a little getting used to, but the satin finish on the back is nothing short of sensuous! I'll never buy a bass with a gloss-finished neck ever again!

As for a thumbrest, I'm having no difficulty anchoring my thumb on the middle pickup. Then again, I have large hands...

The pickups sound pretty good-- smooth when I need them to be, and punchy when I need them to be. so I'm keeping them for now. But, maybe some time down the road, I might consider a set of Nordstrand Big Singles or something, assuming they'll fit...

As for the woods, I've never heard of Agathis before, but it resonates pretty freely, especially in the mid-midrange (D and G strings), though that could also be the strings. But, the 5-ply maple/rosewood neck is very nicely-done, very even, and very clean. Did I mention it feels like silk?

The one thing I don't like about the SR300/500 basses is the lack of space to rest your thumb when plucking.

I hated that about mine also; but I bought the iron pewter model recently, and I got a piece of 1/4" black acrylic and made it into a fake "pickup" and mounted it in between the stock p'ups with double-sided carpet tape... it virtually disappears, and provides a fine thumbrest. :bassist:

I'd pass the SR300 over. I've done enough setup's on them to know they feel and sound like cheap toys to me.

In all honesty you'd be better off being patient and saving a bit more cash then tapping into the used market. I will guarantee you that you'll find something a lot better than the SR300, in terms of quality, playability, and tone.
