IBANEZ SR300 OWNERS??

I've been looking at this bass online for a while. For the most part it seems people are quite happy with it considering the low $300 price tag. My only gripe with it (without having ever actually played one) is the weird finishes it somes in. It looks asthetically boring to me, I wish it came in some kind of natural finish, or see-through colour finish. I like seeing wood grain on my instruments :smug: same goes with drums, which I'm probably more into than bass. Wood grain looks nice to me. Another thing about this bass that seems awkard is the input placement - the cord seems to come out of the bass at an awkward angle. :hmm:

I dont think so. on their website under the sr300 it says:
SR SERIES BASICS
Lightweight, balanced comfort-contoured bodies
Thinner necks than traditional basses for effortless fretwork
Bartolini® MK-1 pickups and EQB-3S 3 band EQ's with mid frequency switch on SR750/SR700/600/530/500 models deliver world-class sound and tone
5pc Jatoba/Bubinga necks on SR750/SR700/600/500 models offer even more durability and stability
5pc Maple/Rosewood necks on SR300/SR400 models offer durability, playability and tone
SR300PWF fretless features Ebonol fingerboard
Ibanez EXF passive pickups (SR300/SR400 series) are contoured for well-balanced string response
Am I reading it wrong?
Only the 500 series or higher have Barts.

The 300 and 400 series have stock Ibanez EXF pickups.

I really don't think of the SR basses as "slap monsters" at all. I think slap sounds like crap on them.

I really don't like the tone of SR basses. I have one, I love the look, the feel, and the playability. However, the tone just is not very good.

I'm going to try replacing the preamp with something higher end. Hopefully that'll improve it.

I bought my very first bass a little over a year ago. It was an SR300 in Roadster Orange. I put GHS Black Nylon Tape Wounds on it and it remains that way. I love it! I will never part with it.

I have since owned or still own a 2010 Fender Geddy Lee (sunburst), a 2010 Fender MIM Standard Jazz (black), a 2010 Squier Vintage Modified Precision (white), and a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz (natural). The Geddy Lee was easily the nicest sounding of them all but I enjoy playing the SR300 the most. It is light. And it sounds pretty good for a low end bass. And, quite frankly, the fit and finish of the SR300 made the Fender MIM Jazz look like a cheap Chinese copy (my experience only, many have loved their MIMs).

I've had good experiences with Ibanez so far (currently own 2 guitars - ART320 and RG350). I'm actually considering purchasing the SRT900DX 4-string bass next although a MM Stingray and MIA Jazz or in the hunt........

I went ahead and purchased an Ibanez SRT900DX! The pictures don't do it justice. It is beautiful! :bassist:

And it sounds as good as I hoped it would!!!

I own an sr305 and a 506. The 305 desperately needs a set up...I can get a sweet Jason Newsted tone (growly, fret-slappy) but other than that I don't like the sound. Pickups are weak on mine too...cant get the low B string to be audible at all...much quieter than the other strings. I tried changing the strings, raising the pickups, hasnt helped at all. I love the neck though.

I just got the SR375 (transparent sunburst, maple neck) and so far I love it! I have a Warwick thumb 5 NT too and for $450 you can't beat the Ibanez! I do want to look into getting a new set of pickups and a preamp for the Ibanez. Any suggestions on what pickups/preamp to get? Oh and for those who hate the SR300 series, that's the best thing about the time we live in now...you have so much to choose from that anyone whining about thumb placement, color, etc...can simply get another bass! :-)

Spread the love and passion, ALWAYS!

Well, nearly a year later, I no longer own my SR405. I gave it to a friend who wanted a good 5-string. Heard him play it live and I take back what I said about the tone earlier in this thread. It's still not my favorite, but it sounds good.

I still don't much care for the SR300 series, because for just a little more you can get the SR500. The SR500 has consistently been the best playing bass I can find at most guitar shops, and it sounds pretty decent. You can tell it's well built and it's super comfortable.

I was considering getting one and putting some SGD ND3 humbuckers in it. Although I might just save up for a Dingwall, since that's what I really want.
