Ibanez SR506 or Cort A6

Hi everyone,

You may remember, I asked you for six string bass for progressive metal. And old topic was very useful for me. And now I can not choose. And I need some help.

If you try or hear something about these basses, may be you want to help me :)

And thanks for reading these sentences. :)

Cort A6:
6 strings model
Figured maple top
Mahogany body
5 pieces maple/wenge neck thru
Scale length 34" (864mm)
Fingerboard radius 15-3/4" (400mm)
2 humbucker pickups
MK1 Bartolini active EQ
EB12 bridge
Hipshot machine heads
Brushed aluminium hardware

Ibanez SR506:
6 strings version
Bartolini MK1 E pick-ups
Bartolini MK1 3 bands EQ
Black chrome hardware
Mahogany body
SR6 wenge/bunbinga neck
Rosewood fretboard
Accu-cast B106 bridge

And as I know, Sr506 made in Korea and A6 from Indonesia. A6 has neck thru and SR506 has not. :)

Both are made by Coretech, who also supply Fender, PRS, Tanglewood.....etc.

I would go for the Cort personally...you get a lot of gtr for less money. Build quality could be iffy...but you get that on all commercial makes. The Corts in my shop though compare on any level with my Ibanez.

The Active Bartolini EQ is a beauty though, it gives you a lot of tonal variation....which any sound engineer will like.

Isn't the A6 a neck through construction? The A6 is also like $300 more expensive, and has a flamed maple top. The A6 looks to be the fancy choice IMHO. Since they have the same pickups and electronics, not to mention they are made in the same factory (CorTek in Korea), they will probably sound very close.

If I had the money, I'd go for the Cort A6 myself, but that's because I think it looks 10 times better IMO.

Thanks for your answer but I don't know what Coretech is. :) ?

Cor-Tec is the commercial trading name of Cort - they have several enormous factories in South Korea where they make guitars for almost everyone who outsources to the Far East, such as their own Cort-branded instruments, Ibanez, Fender, Schecter, ESP and many other big names... even Lakland Skylines and G&L Tributes are made there. In fact, most of their work there is OEM work for other companies, the actual Cort instruments only make up a small proportion of their workload.

They've had their share of controversy, mostly to do with mistreatment of employees. Apparently their workers have gone out on hunger strike to protest their treatment, and one employee even set himself on fire. :hmm:

I would go for the Cort. IMO, it looks classier, and has superior appointments (like hardware, neck-through, etc). But, play them both if you can. The Ibanez of that series are a little dodgy in terms of build quality consistency. The Corts I've played (like A and B series) felt really well built and yielded a solid, pleasing tone.
