Ibanez SR506

what are your thoughts on the Ibanez SR506?

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Pros:
Comforable action and neck
35" scale, so B string wont be as floppy
decent price (620)
lovin the pickups
tight string spacing makes picking faster

Cons:
not sure if tight string spacing will work with slapping
kinda ugly
heavy

does anyone own/ played one of these? what are your thoughts?

If I wanted a 6 string for < 1000 bux, that's be my first choice.

I loved that bass. In regards to the slappy thing, if u wanna slap, why are you getting a six string bass? Also, it didnt really seem that heavy last time I played it. I do agree with your last statement though. Plain brown. ick.

I currently have one that is fretless. The bass really isn't that heavy, and has very nice tone for the pricerange. I actually have done soome slap stuff on it (even though it's fretless).. not a super awesome slap tone... but it's decent if you tweak it right. The string spacing didn't really bother me..

it's a very good 6 string in the price range. I bought mine used.

Not everyone can afford a separate bass for every style that they play. Why chose between extended range and limiting string spacing if you don't have to?

I have no problem slapping on either the SR506 or BTB556, which I own. I actually like the slap tone of the 506 much better than the 556, but I agree with IconBasser about the color.:scowl:

There was a thread about a SR506 for a lefty, and a link to a video with someone shredding the hell out of it. Sound pretty good. Bit like my K5, with more burp.

String spacing is tight. I think it's like in Warwick territory, 16.5 mm (maybe 17 mm). Not sure about the BTBs.

I've been playing one every time I hit my music store. I love it. Playing soft, it's very strong in the midrange, yet still deep and thick. But when I really start digging in and play hard, the snap and twang just screams out. It's such a great feeling to have a dynamic shift in tone like that, just from playing harder for accents. It gives a great BAP when you really slap at it when playing finger-style.
