Hi!
Well, I just received my new SR750 and have spent most of the day setting it up... It's amazing.

First there's its appearance. The bass body is extremely slim and very nicely contoured. Fit and finish are spot on, no flaws. Weight is approximately 7.5 pounds. It shows very nice grain in the walnut top, and the orange stripe down the center looks great. I'm not a fan of gold hardware so I replaced the tuners with some black gotohs I had from an earlier bass. I may keep the gold bridge as it makes for an interesting contrast and fits with the orange. In my opinion the only other bass that can beat this style and good looks is an american MTD, and that's for over $2000 more than this bass cost me.
At first I was genuinely disappointed at the playability. Everything checked out great in terms of setup specs, but the bass was still not feeling it. I was beginning to think that the magic just wasn't there. Turns out it was the Elixir strings. I put on a used pair of DR Lowriders of the same gauge and and instantly the bass was playable and fantastic! Playing is damn near effortless and the tone is fat but defined.
The electronics are definitely acceptable and one could probably keep them without much angst, but I can already tell that an upgrade to the American Barts is going to bring this bass near the high end range of things. Update: I've bypassed the onboard preamp and am now running the bass in passive. The sound is now much more revealing and clear, but this has exposed the sounds of the wood... This bass is extremely bright. I roll the mid and treble almost all the way off on my amp to get a vintage tone.
Overall I am loving this bass. The change from my 90's SR400 is like night and day. I'm a pretty good player, so this is almost an outrageous joy to be playing a very nice instrument now. Highly recommended. Will post pics when I track down a camera.
Take care everybody. Good luck.
