Ibanez SRC6 Successful Conversion

wondering how this went. I'm thinking about doing something similar

They are okay. Not that drastic change compared to the stock electronics, but still they can give a little more pronounce/clearer intonation by switching to single coil mode.

Later I discovered that BestBassGear.com had a pre-wired Aguilar OBP-3 preamp that can replace the existing electronics in the SRC6 and probably make it SO much better than how it comes from the factory. This will be my next upgrade to make the SRC6 bass the best it can be. It will likely fix the balance switch issue too - not to mention give this bass the widest range of tonal adjustability it can possibly provide.

This sounds like a great idea. Did you perform this mod and, if so, are you happy with the results? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you should retain all the benefits of the Aguilar preamp even if you leave the Ibanez in its original configuration with stock strings, correct? you don't have any interest for another conversion to make it all EMGs?

I've converted mine with all EMGs: EMG 35TWX (active) pickups and EMG BQC Control (preamp). Much more tonal possibilities with humbucker and jazz coil modes on both pickups using push-pull volume pots, and the mid control now has sweepable frequency range using ring knob.

Cost wise is it worth changing the stock pickups , or would you get the same upgrade just changing the electronics (tone capsule , preamp) I assume the emg preamp would go in easy

Sorry, I don't have the answer for this, cause I've never had any bass with tone capsule pre.
