So almost none of these stand out. They're all cool but to call any of them iconic would be such a stretch. Probably because there are just so many of them. I wonder if that's because I've been listening to mostly metal and in these bands, the logos and covers are usually so crazily overdesigned that it almost loses it's all meaning.

Seeing a simple "Band Name" logo after that has no effect on me whatsoever.

yes. If I had to design a test to know whether a logo as reached iconic status, it would be: If you don’t know anyone that has the logo as a tattoo, it’s not iconic.
