Double Bass ID Please

A friend of mine got this bass awhile ago, no label inside. I am thinking it may be a CCB, or BSO, but I am no expert. He is considering selling it for $600, and I need to know if it is worth it. The bridge is cut strange, the legs are short (sorry no pics) and the action is high enough I can fit my entire hand between the strings and the board. Good strings on it though, if I am right they are Corelli 370 Forte. Help is appreciated.

looks like a ply bass, from the pictures. as to its worth, well, I guess it depends on what you want to use it for, its physical condition (not falling apart at the seams, etc) and whether you want to put some money (or sweat equity) into making it properly set up so you can use it.

If it's in good condition and you've got a plan to set it up properly, then go for it if you want it (if that's your plan). The body looks like my ply bass that I use for taking to jam nights, but the tuners are different, I think. I enjoy it for what it is, though it generally doesn't hold a candle to my carved bass.

best of luck.

Those first two pics are real fuzzy, but it seems pretty clear that the neck has come loose, then been improperly reset (I say improperly because the button and neck don't line up properly). Expect more trouble.

My 2 cents...

Hi.

Yep, about the only thing that the pics tell is that the neck is either loose, or improperly repaired.

For $600 and based on the information from those pics, I'd pass. And I do love cheapos ;).

If You want to get more detailed answers, take some pics that You would like to see in an for sale ad.

Sam
