Bassteban: do you think that's a custom job adding the j to it? I see there are 3 knobs and where on a normal P would plug in there is a volume or tone knob instead. I know in the early 80's Fender did P/J's, but I'm not sure how old or new these basses are.

The bassist is Garrett Tierney of the band Brand New

I've always loved his tone. I own 3 American Fender P's and 2 American Fender J's myself and would love to have a P/J

Thanks Grizz...i was redoing my iPod for the plane ride to florida tomorrow or rather now in 2 hours haha and came across some Brand New...my gf and I we're having a few years back music reunion :)...anyway I came across Brand New and said damn I've always loved his tone and should snag that bass next. bye bye sadowsky P/J...hello Fender Hot Rod Precision haha

Word! If I find two I'll send one your way for IDing it for me :) Any idea where to find them? I'd love to have that same color scheme (natural trans wood) the only trans bass I have is trans orange and it's weird to play on stage now with both guitarists playing traditional colors (black, oly white, sunburst, sunburst, black, black)...they are so unoriginal :)
This is what I currently own...no natural wood and no P/J...it' so crucial to get that next:) I'll tell myself I need another bass and start believing it so I'll snag it when I see it...good plan to trick myself!

Ebay is probably your best bet, they haven't made them for a while but I think they should reissue them.
I have seen them in natural, black, orange, and white.
I wouldn't mind having one myself.

Definitely let me know if you find two. I've seen them on ebay in the past. There's one on there now if you search for "hot rodded bass". If I'm not mistaken they came in Orange, White, Burst, and Natural. I think you'll be somewhat pleased with the color. Although it's not ideal;)

I'm with Ampeg, they need to reissue these. It would be a great option for the American Series line-up. When Mars Music went under they were selling these basses for like $500. I was only 14, so I couldn't afford it:crying: I played a bunch and have been smitten ever since.

Grizz. You are my fav person on TB! That bass is pretty rad, but I can't pull the trigger on another trans orange. I have to hold out for the sunburst or natural joint. I'm gonna watch this one and see how it does.

I was 12 when they came out as well in 99' and didn't buy my first "real" bass until I was 16...2003 American Fender P bass (black w/ rose neck) shown above...

We missed out :(

haha thanks man. I feel you on the color. If I was was slightly weaker I would take my tax return and snap that up, but I can't drop the cash...yet. I do think natural is the way to go. They look classy as hell.

I was like 11. I didn't start really playing til a year or two later. I was too worried about how to score a Dreamcast back then lol. I did end up with a 80s Fender Power Jazz Bass Special that I picked up for $200. That was my first Fender I played. If only I knew what the future would hold for me. Maybe we missed out, but there's no reason why we can't catch up:bassist:
