Double Bass Ideas for a Removable neck with Weight adustments

Hi guys I have being repairing a Flat back for few months now, and I have to replace the neck block, and it occurrence to me that I could do a removable neck, but them It concurred to me also to make it with adjustable string height... something with some linear movement that I can adjust a little string height, and release the neck.



So far I am thinking on doing some kind of Screw Vise in a rail... to provide the movement.. what it bugs me a little, is that as the neck moves forward the neck joint being wider at the finger board and narrower at the bud, it wont have a tight fit, it may have to be an square joint?

Hi.

Mine's been in the planning stages for ages and not even a single piece has been made, but the quick release I've planned to use is just a simple eccentric mechanism integrated into the tail piece/tail wire.
Pretty much the same as in a butterfly-latch of a road case.

I assume what is meant is adjustable string height, not weight. Upton has done this rather elegantly. The neck can be moved forward and back on what amounts to a worm gear. Check out their design.

You are correct I totally used the wrong term is actually string height at the finger board, moving a neck a little forward or back.

I saw their video, but I couldn't see any details from it...

The fundamental problem of pushing forward or back the neck joint I think is the joint have to be square, otherwise I will not work.

I noticed that Jim Ham uses something like a Square Tenon if I am not mistaken, that's what I am trying to figured out.

Also how to fit this whole system correctly.

I've wanted to modify my bass w/adjustability. my concern about your mechanism is that it is too busy, complicated and heavy. ideally the amount of movement is pretty small in order to deal w/seasonal changes. I recommend you look at what James Candino and Jim Hamm have done w/removable necks first

Hi Powerbass, thanks for your feedback, I am actually trying to design something like J.Ham system, I am not aware of Jame's design, I don't know where to look to see it, I am really trying to make it as simple as possible, but I haven't got an easer and simpler answer to the problem.

How to convert rotary motion into linear motion?
-Simple, small, and easy? I am still working on it.
