Identify this bass

can anybody identify this bass:

and give a rough idea what else is involved to create this particular sound (amps, EQ...)?

Bassist is Bakhiti Kumalo. It's a custom built instrument. I don't remember the name of the builder, not a famous guy.

So what would I need (off the shelf) to sound roughly like that? Is that what a fretless P sounds like?

I always thought that was his Washburn.

...I honestly have no idea what a Washburn looks like....


Also, he's got a jazz pickup there, that'd also add to it. But it's also in Bakithi's technique.

No the Washburn has more of an Explorer style body. Can't find a pic right now but I didn't look very hard.

It looks like a Link Removed. The other Explorer Washburn I think was the B20

A fretless P will sound something like that, but you're gonna be messing with your EQ a lot. I also suggest you watch his technique as I'm sure that's a big part of it.
