identifying cab.....

Looks like a modded Ampeg SVT 1540. Was not a fan of that cab even with the original speakers. Honestly, I think it's the worst cab Ampeg ever made. Might not be one, but it looks like one. I don't know...the price is sort of attractive, but I'd rather spend more and get a good cab ;)

Matt, I agree its an Ampeg, and I'd have a hard time passing on a price like that too. Heck, its worth that price just for the 10" drivers if they're in good condition.

I'd try it out and seriously consider this cab to use/leave at a band rehearsal studio if nothing else. Ive never played through this model, but if they suck as bad as jimmy says, you could just play through the top-10's only, and skip rewiring the cab so the 15 works simultaneously...

thanks to all for the quick responses, i love tb! i really just wanted to fix it and sell it. i have a friend who is an electrical engineer, i am ignorant to all things electrical, but i enjoy learning more and he could help me. i thought i could offer him $100, fix it and sell it for $400-500. maybe not, who knows. it's a long drive too, so maybe i won't pursue it.....i dunno!

I know what you mean. It's semi-attractive, but not knowing what the speakers are, they could be some budget crap that the previous owner bought as placeholders.

Who would pay $400-$500 for that when one can pick up a top quality used cabinet for the same bucks?

For example, I paid $500 for an Epifani 4 ohm UL1 410 and $425 for an 8 ohm UL1 210. I'd bet either one would bury that old box—or at least equal it for level and then kill it for tone, LOL! :D :D

But seriously, if you want to build something, consider a cut-kit from Speakerhardware.com. I hear fEARfuls are pretty good.

you'd think, but you really don't see many second hand around here. i'm on cl and in the music stores all the time too. sure, you see the gk's, ampegs, edens and all that, but not the epifanis, fearfuls and bergs. or maybe i'm just jamming with and meeting a bunch of goof offs like myself! maybe those guys are just scared to have the pricey gear leave the house. i dunno, just my observation.

Well you got Ampeg...that's enough ;) Just not that one IMHO. It could be made into a great cab if you replace the bottom baffle with a 410 config, but that's work, plus it's made out of OSB so why bother?
