Identifying my Fender Precision Bass

The incorrect fitting of the bridge is exactly the same as my '76 P, which I've owned from new. The first thing I did was to move the bridge. Unbelievable. This is what happens with near-monopolies.

75-76 body and pickups/neckplate. Neck 1970. Tuners probably from and yet another year. Pots not original. You have a parts Fender bass.
Yeah, after talking to my dad, he thinks he had to change the pots after a few years because they weren't working right. I do have them around here somewhere though. Hey thanks guys for all the input here! It's a cool old piece of history. I will take it in to Eldery Music and see what they think of it for value.
It may be a bit of a mongrel, but it's cool! A 1970 neck is definitely a good thing if it's functional. I'm a fan of TV logos, too.
Ha! Yes it is Pet! I kinda like it that it's a hybrid. Gives it character. The sound is awesome with the Bartonlis. I just took a chance with those and very glad I did. Very thick punchy bass now. A new bridge would help too I'm sure.
Does the neck have pearl dots along the top or black ones? 1970 seems to be the transitional year on that. If it still has the pearl dots, it's a little more desirable.

You can get a nice P-Bass case from Fender these days. I replaced the case I got with my 2002 P-Bass.
That new ones are beefy and they have space to store a strap, spare strings, picks
and stuff.
There are some very fine 'soft' cases available too.

I have one of those Fender SKB molded cases. I don't like those very much, but it keeps it protected at least. I will get one of the good Fender cases some day! I play a Ken Smith 5 so the old P doesn't get much use any more. Just fun to have on my wall!
