idjut?

Yeah, I've heard several guitar players pick up a bass and play like that. So what? There's some famous bass shredders out there, sounds cool for a little while, but do you really want to listen to them for very long? John Patitucci plays great 6-string, but i wonder if that's really playiing bass.

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but to me bass playing is more than playing lots of notes way up on the neck. True bass playing is an art unrelated to guitar technique. It's a completely different concept. It's a groove that moves the song along on its way, relating to the groove the drummer has going. Etc.

Solos are cool, but i think it should be a bass solo, an expression of the bass's space and purpose in music.

Im not a big fan of the actual playing on the vid.
But i respect how he is crossing the boundaries of regular bass playing. And i think all bass players should respect that :)
Instead of bad mouthing people like him just because he's not playing what a bass player 'should'
