IEM ear protection

Hi guys,

a quick question - I am about to make the transition to IEM and I want to be sure not to cause more damage to my ears than I would be saving them by using IEM.

I plan on going wired going out from a Presonus board and intended to put compression and a limiter on my auxilliary channel to protect my ears in case of feedback and sudden increases in volume (such as a mike falling to the floor).

A friend of mine has argued that this may not be enough protection when compared to wireless systems which will apparently cut out if too loud a volume is transmitted to them.

What do you think?

I use a wired IEM with the Presonus board. I run out of my aux to an inexpensive headphone amp on my side of the stage. Then I connect to it with a jumpaudio body pack. I've been doing this for 2 years and have never had a problem controlling the overall volume with my body pack and allowing the limiter to work on the board. My vote is that I think it's plenty safe.
