If I run my 300w combo thru a 4x10 cab..?

Will I get increased volume/audibility? I'm currently using a 300 watt Behringer Ultrabass combo, and, though I can hear myself at band practice most of the time, once my guitar player cranks up his volume or I move more than 10 feet away I get pretty much lost in the mix. I haven't played a show with my band since I switched from drums to bass, but our old bass plyer used my amp and was never heard at shows.

So, I have $300 dollars to spare, which is enough to get me a bargain Behringer or GK 4x10 cabinet, and I'm wondering if it's worth it. My combo amp has an output for external cabs, but I don't know if the 300 watts will push much more sound out of the cab than it does out of its stock 15" speaker. I DO know, though, that I currently can't turn up the volume past about 1 or 2 o'clock, because the amp is too strong for the speaker they put in it, so I guess with the cab I'll be able to crank it to max.

Anyways, theres the story. Thanks to anyone who helps me out :)

I'm guessing that you are using the BXL300. You should be able to get another 100W out of your amp by hooking up an external cabinet. I'm going to assume that this will disable the speaker in the combo though since the amp is rated for a 4 ohm minimum impedance.

A 4 ohm 4x10 (or 2x12) would probably give you a bit more volume as not only will it be able to handle more wattage, it will also have a larger cone surface area and probably be more efficient. Of course, it will suck to lug around the whole combo just to use the amp portion.

I hear good things about the Avatar B212, which should be just about the right price.

Close.. sort of. I'm using the BXL3000a. I was considering buying a Behringer BB410 cabinet (one of which I found for $219 because its "blemished"), but the Avatar stuff looks interesting.

You are definitely right about the ohms, though. I'm not sure if the combo speaker will be disabled, but it does run at 4 ohms, and so does the cab I just mentioned.

I'm not familiar with that combo but if the head is a minimum 4ohm head, you may want to disconnect the internal speaker, anyway, search the ohms FAQ to figure it out. Adding more speakers will give you more SPL. If your pondering over Behringer or Avatar, work a little harder, save another $100 and get the Avatar, decent construction and eminence neo's, you'll like it.

Disconnecting the speaker sounds like it's probably a good idea. About saving more money, the reason I'm considering buying a cab in the first place is because I saved this $300 to buy a wireless system in hopes of using it soon, but due to issues with the guitar player we aren't gonna have any shows for a while, so I'm looking for something I can spend the money on that I can enjoy NOW and save up another 300 by the time we begin playing more shows. I'm in high school, so I don't need anything fancy right now, and I don't really feel like waiting to build up more money.
