I was just reading through this again, and came accross my post from 2 years ago!

So, two years later...

Bass 1. Then: Squier VM Fretless - Now: I have this bass
Bass 2. Then: Ibanez ABG - Now: I have had a few ABG´s, but couldn't get to like them! Maybe a Warwick Alien sometime
Bass 3. Then: Squier P Bass - Now: HB Short Scale Passive P
Bass 4. Then: HB Active P/J - Now: Completely revamped HB Active P/J
Bass 5. Then: Squier Active Jaguar P/J - Now: Squier Passive P/J
Bass 6. Then: Dean (I think) active 4 with soapbars - Now: ESP LTD 5 String Active with Soapbars (on order)
Bass 7. Then: Squier Jazz VM Bass - Now: J&D Jazz Bass
Bass 8. Then: None - Now: Nothing (yet)
Bass 9. Then: None - Now: Nothing (yet)

So, an update in 2017, 2 years after the 2 year update...

First, I must say that I would need to sell some to be down to 10, so I will base it on what I would like if limited to 10 basses (at this moment, tomorrow... who knows )

Bass 2. 2013: Want Ibanez ABG 2015: Want Warwick Alien 2017: Own 2 ABG's (a 4 and a 5) but would swap for a 30" 5er.
Bass 3. 2013: Want Squier P Bass 2015: Own HB Short Scale Passive P 2017: Still own the bass, going nowhere.
Bass 4. 2013: Own HB Active P/J 2015: Own modded HB Active P/J 2017: Still own this bass, now in Granny Smith Green, going nowhere.
Bass 5. 2013: Want Squier Active Jaguar P/J 2015: Own Squier Passive P/J 2017: Still own this bas but have a 30" version on order.

Last Christmas I was up to an unheard of 6 basses.

I'm now down to 3 and heading for 2, my Lull PJ5 and my Lakland 55-94.

Someone else can have my other 8 allocations.

I'm thinking there's enough variations on a P to get me to 10. I'd be keeping my current 75 P, 74 P, and Hamer 2TEK Cruise (the one J style I'd have).

So the 7 acquisitions could be something like this.
Fender 57 or 58 AVRI
Fender 63 AVRI
G&L L100
Musicman Cutlass
Nash PB-63
Early 80s Ibanez Blazer
And Dark Horse would be making me a P with that cracked lacquer finish he does so well.

Each bass would have a different set of flats.

'Only' ten basses with no cap on the price? Set me up with that deal any day of the week!

1. My Trace Elliot/Status T-Bass - Had it for over a decade now, and I wouldn't trade it for the other nine basses on this list put together. Aside from the sentimental value though, it's still the best active J-bass I've ever played.
2. A red 59' Fender P, preferably with a nice bit of wear to it - I don't think this needs much in the way of explanation.
3. An Alembic Dragon Wing, Series II electronics with all the bells and whistles, burled top in a transparent black burst finish (with matched headstock). Silver logo and hardware, silver roman numeral fret markers on an ebony board. One of my lottery-win dream basses for sure. I guess when I grow up, I want to be John Entwistle?
4. A Dingwall Z3 6-string in a nice bright banana yellow with black hardware and an ebony board - Fanned fret 6-er for versatility and a killer low B
5. Ampeg Scroll Bass - I love these things and I've wanted one since I first saw them online. ...although even with a limitless budget I'd be tempted to go with one of Bruce Johnson's reproductions. They seem just as great in every way and I'd lose the nerves about gigging a rare(ish) antique.
6. Fretless Ampeg scroll bass, again probably a Johnson repro
7. Headless Status 5-string S3 in gloss black with white binding, dual soapbars and red LEDs - I love Status basses and headlesses in particular. 7+8 as a pair would hopefully become my main players out of the list, as they should be incredibly versatile
8. Headless fretless Status 5-string S3 in Gloss white with black binding, dual soapbars and blue LEDs - going for a yin/yang thing with the other S3
9. A Fireglo Ric 4003 - Got to have at least one Ric in there somewhere, right?
10. A nice vintage Stingray

The Statii, Alembic and Dingwall would give me pretty much whatever tone I wanted, with the vintage P-bass, the Ampegs the Ric and the Ray covering more specific and harder to replicate sounds. Not definitive... I'd be tempted to swap the fretted Ampeg for a Zon or a Wal of some description, but that's definitely close to my ideal shopping list.
