In my 50 years of buying/playing/keeping/selling/trying/testing bass guitars (compounded by variations of string types tried on each), I've really learned two things......a 'perfect tone' in a bass guitar is not to be found,.....and, no matter how much is spent on an instrument, higher dollar amounts DO NOT always yield better results in overall sound & quality. With this post, I just want to share something special for those like me who are still enjoying the 'adventure'. The $2,500+ vintage Fender Precision bass I've 'fretted' over is still on the display hooks at the store. I've played it at the store a few minutes, twice, but my wallet says "no!"
BUT, I just recently ordered and received a new SIRE Marcus Miller 4 strg v7 vintage bass, for $629. You will not pry this guitar from my hands,.....ever. It looks and sounds awesome, and every time I play it, the tone takes me back to the Motown Sound I love from my music days of old. That's it,... try one, you'll see that it does what they say it will. No, I am not affiliated with the company in any way. Just trying to share what I think is valuable to old-types and newbies alike.
