Double Bass If you had an old Kay......

Last weekend I played another gig with the old Spiros. The bass was tight and dead. I had enough and decided to go the less expensive route and try the Super Silvers. Now the bass is boomin' and much easier on the left hand. I'll get a chance to try it tonight on a gig. Should be fun. Thanks for all the advice.

it doesn't get any beterfor bluegrass...

Unless you're going to slap a lot, I can't see any reason not to stick with Innovation SilverSlaps (or SuperSilvers... same string, higher tension), even the Innovation Braided Solos tuned down to concert, or from what I've heard Velvet Garbos.
Each has beautiful plummy gut-like tone, but with loads more definition and projection in the E and A.

If you're slapping a lot, nothing quite gets the sound of a gut string on the G and D. And they do feel very 'right' on an old Kay.
