As great as Flea's playing is in the Subway to Venus viddy, it's the last 30 seconds where the whole scene is flippin' fantastic.

god listening to how amazing this band used to be drives me nuts when i hear the drivel they release nowadays. MM, BSSM, and OHM are unreal records.

Amen to that! BSSM in particular one of my all time favourites. OHM didn't quite have the same back-to-back all-killer-no-filler feel and since then it's been downhill IMO, apart from the odd great track hidden amongst the subsequent records.

But despite all that, anyone on TB who can't appreciate what Flea has done for bass playing, and that he's actually pretty damn good, must be a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Frankly, I like Flea's voice work in Wild Thornberry's as Donnie the wild boy.

one hot minute just didnt have the jimi hendrix feel that JF brought to the two albums he was on before, however im a metal guy at heart and the heavy aspect they brought mixed with the usual funk stuff was a nice change of pace for me.

it also has a special place in my heart because its one of the albums that i learned how to play from. i think from age 13-17 i spent everynight playing along with an entire chili peppers album, and this was one of my favs (OHM won bassplayers album of the year for bass in 1996 or 97).

Great post. Having learned my chops playing along to Maidens early discography, hearing what Flea was doing on Uplift Mofo and MM gave me a whole new set of challenges!

But then of course, Frizzle Fry came along...

my daily routine was first 5 tracks of Master of puppets (sans TTSNB cause it was in D), then on to chili peppers. I think i rocked out to Freaky Styley more than Uplift but MM/BSSM/OHM were the go to records.

and when i was feeling super speed demon id throw on the waynes world soundtrack and play along with sikamanahimco (SP?)!

and primus stuff was definitely in there, but only selected songs. i didnt have a 6 string until i was like 20 and only frizzle was non 6 stringed (although seas of cheese has some 4 string parts).
