If you were...

Well, apparently, 'tis all for naught. Turns out both guitarists brought 4x12 cabs tonight, and we were all able to get along nicely.

We'll see what happens when the main guitarist gets a proper head, though...

Thanks all.

If you are entering this "cold war arms race" might I suggest a cab like an SVT410HLF... or something fEARful, that has a lot of low end and drone your bandmates to insanity.
A DIY fEARful 12/6 would be a surprisingly cool way to 'silence' the guitards, & not too far outside the $300 budget. Others have built those for a tad over $400, & drivers do come up for sale at good discounts from time to time. One 12/6 & 500+W @ 40lbs or less would hold its own with those 4x12s! Build another one later for the really big gigs...

More suggestions please?
Going by your location, I'd go a lot further west (away from hell!) ;-)

I have a 12/6/1 and have used it with a guitarist using 2-2x12s. The guitar almost always wins.
Unless the guitarist has a tiny head he will be able to be louder. A 100w guitar head and 4x12 is stupid loud.
12/6s are fantastic and loud for their size, but they ain't magic. A 15/6 would do the job much better.
You are going to need allot of speaker to "compete." Unless what you are doing really needs the volume talk some sense into your guitarists.
I love loud music but be realistic.

Yes, talking to your guitarist is definitely needed, but being realistic, with a 412, even a little power can be pretty loud, so you'll probably need a little more fire power. Unless you manage to convince him to downsize back to a 212. With $300, you should be able to get a 215 or a 410. Shop used around for Peavey, Yorkville, or Mesa stuff for good value. Be prepared for a lot of heavy lifting. Low cost, good tone, light weight, you can only have two.
