I'll genuinely miss Stephen Colbert...

My unsolicited analysis:

In any workspace where creativity is required, the best innovation often comes from discord, even conflict. When a homogenized team's response to disagreement is to take personal affront and then ostracize (this has become normalized, even celebrated, even right here in River City), that creative team becomes self-limiting. Doesn't matter whether we're talking about aerospace engineers, comedy writers, or musicians in a band. Innovation is stifled and the end product tends to ossify instead of evolve. Not a great recipe for growth.
Oh, I think there was a homogenized, offended team involved. But it wasn't the people who worked for Colbert.

Just a reminder to everyone that politics by proxy is still politics here at TB, and therefore not allowed.

What is politics by proxy, you may ask? It’s when instead of talking about a particular person or party, you talk negatively or positively about a news organization, blogger, YouTuber, or other public figure standing in place for the particular person or party. So if someone posts something about “Fox sucks” or “MSNBC sucks”, that’s one example of politics by proxy.

I thought it interesting, but very much in character, that Colbert immediately pivoted to hosting the public access television program Only in Monroe, in Monroe Michigan. I was initially surprised, then I found it entirely congruent with his sense of humor. His status is such that he makes a point simply by doing what he's doing.

It took me a while to become a Letterman fan, but after a while I really enjoyed his show. It also took me a while to adapt to Colbert's approach - I never saw his previous show The Colbert Report. Now I know I'll miss his regular show, but I'm sure he'll be showing up in interesting places.

I suspect the replacement show on CBS will reach a new low in audience ratings.

For my part, I'll miss seeing Endea Owens playing upright. She's a fine player and so much more than a member of that fine band. I was interested to see her playing in the "Hello Goodbye" snippet with Paul McCartney. It was the first time I got a good look at that bass and, boy, it looked big. Anybody know anything about it?

One of her basses looks exactly like a LaScala

Ya Fox News is not braodcast television.

Just looked up Gutfeld, I'm ashamed he's from my hometown....
He has done well, but do not make yourself feel ashamed by comparing his popularity and success to yours, sure, Fox News's Gutfeld! is consistently one of the most-watched shows in late-night television, regularly averaging between 3 million and 3.7 million total viewers. Airing at 10:00 p.m. ET, it frequently outperforms traditional broadcast late-night hosts in total viewership, including The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but so what, you and I have our bass guitars!

The reality is that all of these late night hosts are immensely popular compared to us, have businesses to run, and that is difficult to do. They all deserve respect for what they have accomplished.

: )

Ha! if you mean the ones out of Wil DeSola's shop, I should at least recognize that one since my LaScala hybrid is my main bass.

Me too. I actually paused a Colbert YT bit when I saw her playing it the first time. I’m pretty sure that’s what it was. It makes sense, too. Exactly the kind of bass I would keep on set for a gig like that: the Honda Accord/Toyota Camry of basses. You might not get big style points, but you’ll never break down and always get where you’re going on time.

CBS canceled the entire "Late Show" as an ongoing program. In other words, it is not expected to be coming back.
😞
If I understand how this worked CBS owns the The Late Show. So the only way it will ever be back is if CBS wants it to.
From what I read Comics Unleashed With Byron Allan is taking the time slot on a year agreement. It's history ratings wise looks iffy to me.

10 pm ET isn't even late night. That's considered prime time. Actual late night shows start at 11:30 or later. The potential audience at that later time is, of course, smaller.

Thank you for pointing that out, however in this instance apparently both Colbert on the late “Late Show,” and “Gutfeld!” are both cablecast as well as broadcast, with Gutfeld! now between the two shows the lone survivor! Amazing.

I watched a little of that guy’s show. If he truly has a larger audience than Colbert, I am not optimistic for the species.

But realistically, he was competing with not just Colbert, but Colbert plus Kimmel and the others. So possibly the species is in better shape than it appears at first glance.
