I'm 001 challenged... Please Help!!!

Magma makes some good PCI and PCI-X expansion chassis. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

They're not cheap though and coming from someone who's used the 001 + Magma chassis on a Macbook and who owns an 002 and a Powerbook, I'd say upgrade. That is unless you usually only record two tracks at a time and have a nostalgia for ProTools LE 5 and lower. Otherwise, like bradjones said, downgrade your hardware and get an old G3/G4 tower.

I have the Digi 001 rack system and had been running it on my pc. Unfortunately, that computer gave up the ghost, but I also have my MacBook Pro. Is there ANY way possible to use my 001 PCI card with my macbook. There has to be a way...

Hi BobbyTouche,

Even if you could find a the proper card slot to expansion bay with PCI-X slots to accommodate the Digi001 card, you would still have to worry about compatibility of the Mac OS and the version of Pro Tools, which I would assume is back in the 5.3.1 or 6.4 days. I think that is the most recent version of Pro Tools that the Digi001 supports depending on your OS. Regardless, the most recent Apple OS that the Digi001 supports is 10.3, and your mac probably has 10.4 or 10.5 on it. Also, even if you are on 10.3, there has not been support for the intel based Macs on the Digi001 hardware and software as the Digi001 was discontinued well before the intel based macs were released.

Your best bet if you want to continue working with Pro Tools is to participate in a Digidesign sponsored trade in with your dealer. That should give you more for your used Digi001 than what you could get for it on eBay in credit towards the 003R, 003RFactory, or 003Factory with or without the Music Production Tooklit. This also gets you up to the current version of Pro Tools (7.4) which is a huge step forward in capability from 5.3.1. Lastly, Pro Tools 7.4 is currently compatible with 10.4.9. (Tiger). If you have 10.5 (Leopard) on your Mac, Pro Tools is currently unsupported. (Give it a few months and it should be updated to run on 10.5.3.)

I've owned the 001, 002 fader unit, and now the 003 rack mount unit. It is a large upgrade in sonic quality from the Digi001.

PM me if you don't have a dealer set up for this.

Yeah, digidesign stopped making, selling and supporting 001 ages ago.
