I'm Curious

I dabbled around a number of instruments when I was younger, but never guitar. Bass was one of them, I got one when I was about 16, noodled with it for a while, then it got stolen from my car when I was going to lend it to a friend and I never bothered replacing it. My musical outlet for a long time was actually mandolin, banging out campfire tunes.

Then in my late 30s I started really feeling a craving for bass again, discovered CL, discovered TB, and the rest is history.

I actually first tried guitar a couple of years after picking up bass as an adult. Part of it was recognizing that it would be useful for songwriting. Part of it was wanting to be able to "follow hands" on a guitarist when jamming. At first I grabbed my wife's acoustic, later I got my own. Now I own a pretty nice acoustic and a couple of electrics, but the only public guitar playing I do is leading worship in church (and that only for lack of anyone better stepping up). I'm a pretty good bassist but a very mediocre guitarist, and there are too many good ones around for me to be much of an asset to a band on guitar.
