I'm getting a PA.

I'm in 3 gigging bands, one of them with my dad. He has a decent small PA, which I've run and maintained, and often stored, for years. He's let me borrow it for a couple gigs with my other bands lately, and when I was on the phone with him yesterday, asking about another, he mentioned just letting me have it and getting a personal amp for himself. It's not like they're (my folks) super well off or I'm spoiled or anything, BTW, I think he is just getting old and tired of the schlep. Plus any gigs he needs me for we'll still have it. He plays in other bands as well, that have their own PAs.

Small combo mixer, a Yamaha EMX312, and a pair of JBL JRX115s & stands. I've upgraded the speaker cords to speakon ends.

Personally, I'd like to sell the JBLs and get four matching 12s of some type that are lighter and possibly louder. But that seems a bit, I dunno, ungrateful? Though this PA has been sufficient volume wise, just no monitors. It's primarily for vocals and acoustic instruments, never bass or drums. Those JBLs are heavy, a bit overkill at most of my gigs.

The mixer has the dual 300 watt amps, with a switch to run mains or mains+ monitors, which will be handy if i pick up a pair of passives in the meantime.
No gain, mute, or pan on any channels though. Just a universal mute, that does not mute the RCA ins, which is nice for iPod music during breaks, but I'd still prefer an individual channel mute.

But hey can't beat the price, and I appreciate the gift.

I have been using Carvin PM12s for a few years on my "to go" system - they have held up well - except I sometimes over power them for vocal clarity and burn a tweeter diaphragm now and again......usually my own fault. With your powered mixer - you shouldn't encounter that . They are light enough and a little more powerful than the Peaveys. I Have never A-B'd them though. YMMV - cost difference is negligible - you can get the carvins when they have a sale a little cheaper.

a bunch out there - maybe the used market is good where you are?

BTW - I have four of the PM12's and two of the PM15's
Sometimes I use the 12s only - or 12s with subs, it is pretty flexible

Yamaha's speakers are going to be your best bet on the used market. They don't seem to hold any monetary value relative to their performance. It's probably worth your while to just keep the JRX's, since you have them, and add some Club or BR series monitors.

I've heard the Peavet PR 10s & 12s. Not bad for what they are. They Do Not have angles for wedges tho. Just FYI.
They Suck IMO.
Another band I play in has a pair of the PR12P (the powered version) for mains. I feel they sound fine for our applications. I could swear the powered versions have the angled back. But they do have the "down firing" tweeter deal, which is opposite of what I'd want in a 2 monitor setup.

I know of an older Yamaha 12" wedge I could pick up for $50 from another musician, just need to find another I suppose. I've also already got a behringer 205d that I can run on the monitor out on mixer. As you can see nothing but the best for me.;)

we used the pr12's for our first year of gigging in the band, and upgraded to the JBL's -- maybe the same model you have now??
You'd be taking a step backwards. PR12s are ok for a small gig if your drums and amps are pretty quiet.
I found they have a kind of smooth top end that doesn't fry your ears. We still use them as our rehearsal monitors.

If you try to put bass or kick through them, expect the cable to forcibly be ejected from the 1/4 jack. They're plastic and they literally flex like a balloon from speaker excursion.
We fried the tweeter in one of them but I put in a new Pyle Pro tweeter, wasn't too hard.
I would stay away from PR10's. We ran into the volume limits of our PR12's on a regular basis and I imagine the PR10s would be worse.
