I would say my overall aesthetical taste in basses is more classic aka old school influenced. These are the two paisley finished basses my friend, Michael Dolan, has made for me over the last few years.
The first is what I call the Paisleycaster Bass. It was inspired by Fender's mashup series about 10-15 years ago. I had really wanted to experiment with having G&L MFD's in a full hollowbody, so that's how the pickups and body got paired together. The bass was originally supposed to be in trans-greenburst, but then it occured to me that this would be the perfect project to get a paisley finish off my bucket list. This bass is paired with a Sadowsky preamp with vintage tone control. Swamp ash body. Figured maple neck. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard.
The second bass I just picked up about a week ago. The shape is inspired by Hofner's Verythin model, but with a wide of 4 inches in the sides, I call it the Verythick. I was also really hooked on the tone from Dusenberg's Drop Kick Murphys bass, so that's where their bassbucker pickups come in. Michael placed the pickups in my favorite position. I anchor my thumb on the bridge side pickup and play in-between the pickups. The paisley has a mint green base keeping with my green themed instruments. Though it's quite difficult to capture the green in many shades of light. This bass is paired with a Nordie 2 band preamp. Spruce top, bent maple sides, maple back. Ebony fingerboard. Perliod binding and blocks.
