Not a requirementOr just spend $16 on cables when your rig costs over $1k. Not really a big deal. Skip a fast food trip or something similar. Making your own cables for your first rig isnt something I'd state as a requirement.
For sure - just offering up that he could, not should. But Speakons are one of the easiest connectors to install and it wouldn't hurt the OP to learn how to install them.
As far as I know, speakon connectors are only made by Neutrik, they are all the same quality , and they only cost $5 or so.
A sax player I used to play with had one of those Bose linear array PAs. At one session, the sub wouldn't work. I offered up my spare (homemade) speakon-speakon cable and we got it running. I took the Bose branded cable home and found the conductors had just pulled out - because the strain relief wasn't tightened properly. I guess the sax player could have bought another Bose cable, but it took me all of 5 min to fix it (and I let him keep the spare)
