I'm new... Embarrassing... But what cables do I need?

For sure - just offering up that he could, not should. But Speakons are one of the easiest connectors to install and it wouldn't hurt the OP to learn how to install them.
As far as I know, speakon connectors are only made by Neutrik, they are all the same quality , and they only cost $5 or so.

A sax player I used to play with had one of those Bose linear array PAs. At one session, the sub wouldn't work. I offered up my spare (homemade) speakon-speakon cable and we got it running. I took the Bose branded cable home and found the conductors had just pulled out - because the strain relief wasn't tightened properly. I guess the sax player could have bought another Bose cable, but it took me all of 5 min to fix it (and I let him keep the spare)

Someone probably already said this .. I didn't read every post .. hopefully I'm not repeating something:

I bought Speakon connectors at GC and just the length of cable I needed. They told me how to put them together and it's dead simple .. and no soldering required.

And then you can make your cable(s) custom for you, just the length you want.

Right but I can fake a webserver by installing nc on a Linux box, configuring it to listen on port 80 and piping a html file to it.

Its way faster than Apache or IIS or Wordpress or anything like that. Totally free outside of bandwidth costs....

But when my uncle says he wants to build his first website I point him at Blogger, or Wordpress, or some other hosted option.

I get your point but for someone's first rig I don't see it making any sense. An untrained person is more likely to make an error and when the price is so low it's not worth the risk or time.

I clicked on this thread just to see how far into it until someone says "make your own!" as if it were that simple. And then I saw someone suggest 4g cable. Imagine if OP combined both as sage advice? So yeah, the first-timer who apparently is totally unaware of the traits of speaker cable should probably go to the local GC and ask for one, then start building them later if they so choose...

You guys are right. The safe thing is for the OP to just go and buy the right cables.

BUT if he is inclined to DIY, and wants to learn, making Speakon cables is really simple. If you buy a 10ft cable to make 3 shorter cables, you already have the proper wire and 2 examples of how it should look.

Yeah really, you don't even have to solder, that video shows how simple it is. It's just speaker cables, no different than a home theatre speaker cable, nothing magic.

People do far more difficult guitar mods here all the time and are encouraged by others to do so. It's tougher to set up your base than make these.

Having said that, I'd probably just buy them pre made myself. I got poopie to do ya know. I'm a busy man! Lol
