I'm Scared.

While helping a friend's son look for a new 4-string in the mid $500 range, I played a wide assortment of Fender J & P basses, Ibanez, Traben, ESP, LTD, etc...

The one bass that jumped to life in my hands was a Peavey Cirrus neck-though with active elex, made of something that looked like mahogany, with a light brown fretboard. I was super comforatble and fast, great action, and it was easy to get a wide range of tone from the T,M,B controls. Not one of the Fenders did anything for me - even the fabled '08 MIA's they had for twice the price.

What's wrong with wanting another Fender? Boy, all the Fender haters sure love to come to threads like these and inform us of how pedestrian our lowly Fenders are.

Anyway, if you want to mix it up and not worry about getting a non-Fender, get a Precision.

Love Fenders and Love EBMM. I was in a little bit of a different situation that you are. I couldn't make my mind up on either a Fender Jazz (MIA) or EBMM SR4, which in itself is another dilema alltogether. I ended up going for the EBMM Sterling 4. Similar Jazz type neck with the SR growl and some other features. May not be for you but I have no regrets.
