Sorry for the bad pun in the title. I couldn't resist.

Moving onwards to my actual point.

Whenever I pick up my bass, I play the same dumb crap over and over. Its usually pentatonic generic stuff. I need to change it up. I'm sure some of you have had periods like this. What did you do to break out of it?

Different tuning perhaps? Try an effect even.
Something like that might help you think of different ideas....

Try listening to some music that you like where the bass player is playing in a way that is different from what you are trying to get away from. Start playing along with said bass player.

I put my mp3 player on random and try to play along with every song it comes up with.
