I'm wondering if it's all worth it

We use SRM450s and 2 passive subs for 90% of our gigs. Plenty of volume and clarity. We put the SRM450s on poles and then cluster the subs together so they really thump.

On outdoor gigs we add Yamaha 2x15, however, we only send instruments through them and we use the SRM450s strictly for vocals. Pretty amazing actually.

you're taking a very incorrect thing (mixing different top boxes at the same time) and making it a very cool and kind of advanced thing (see dave rat and the chili peppers' PA setup) by having a "dual PA", some boxes for instruments and others just for vocals.
