IMO, another BS feature on some basses...

There is a very simple solution - if one doesn't think it makes a difference, then it doesn't and there is no reason to buy it. If one does think it makes a difference, then it does (for them) and if they like it, they should buy it.

You can NEVER remove bias from the equation because in the end, a human is playing the instrument.

Similar analogy - there is no such thing as "documentary film." Bias lives in every shot ever taken - including surveillance cams. It cannot be removed.

My jazz bass sustains longer than any bass I've ever had, and it's the only string-through I've ever had, so that does nothing to disprove the idea it gives more sustain. The thing is, it's the only bass I've ever had to mute at the end of songs that ring out. I'm sure I could test whether it's the stb that causes the sustain, but deciding whether sustain is a "good" thing is the more important question. I'm not so sure I want or need more sustain, so I certainly wouldn't want to pay for it.

I hear a small difference between the two. Bridge mounted seems to sound 'zingier' which can be a good or a bad thing. I have no idea if this is because bridge mounted has more highs, or if through body had more low mids, or perhaps muted highs. Is it a big difference? Not enough to make it a deal breaker for me. That said, I have to laugh at the OP for whining about companies providing 2 options. What on Earth does it hurt?
LOL. I'm not whining about it. But I think it's funny that they include some BS feature that for the most part does nothing. Yet people here will over analyze and THINK that they hear differences. Like I said; do it blind folded with 20 basses and score 100% and then I'll give that person credit.
