I really wanted to order a PJ before they stopped, but just didnt have the funds.

Same here. I really wish he'd given more lead time before discontinuing because it sounds like he would have probably profited pretty well from it.

same here, a PJ in '69 Orange with white pickguard.

how come they never made fretless? Or did they?

I have to admit that I know almost nothing about these. were they American made and why did they stop production?

American made in Detroit by Joe Naylor and company. They never made a fretless. They still make guitars and amps, Invalid Link Removed
Joe said there was not enough demand for basses to justify keeping them in production. Dang shame, as it's by far my favorite bass. I still want a Brad Houser with stacked switchable pups...

Yep. FRom what I hear his little ole Reverend guitar amps kick butt. Never heard one in person tho.
